How to take consistent before and after photos
Consistent clinical photography comes down to controlling the same few variables every visit. Here's a simple checklist.
1. Fix the lighting
Use the same lights in the same positions every time. Wall-mounted lights in a dedicated photo room remove most of the variation.
2. Fix the distance and height
Mark the floor for the patient and the camera. The Simple Studios sticker kit makes positions repeatable for every staff member.
3. Lock the camera settings
Keep the same lens, zoom, exposure and white balance. Save them in a template so nobody has to remember them.
4. Match the pose to the before photo
Keep the before photo visible beside the live view and match chin height, head rotation and expression before you shoot.
5. Follow the same sequence
Capture views in the same order — front, 45°, profile — using a procedure workflow so no view is missed.
